Want a Safe And Clean Deodorant— I Found The BEST One

Hi there gang, how’s your week going? I’m excited to share with you another discovery that has been incorporated into my essential skin care routine and the resourceful woman behind it all.

Is what’s in your deodorant important to you? Do you take a holistic approach to wellness and product choices? Ten + years ago I was unconcerned and uneducated. Today, these things are incredibly important and ever-evolving for me as I learn more about how toxins of many forms can effect our over-all health. Choosing what we put on our skin can be overwhelming and without educating ourselves and making our own wellness guideline preferences, we only have pretty packaging and convincing marketing strategies influencing our decisions.

Enthusiastically over the past decade now I’ve been ditching the bad stuff and choosing cleaner products that are free of parabens and preservatives. Finding a deodorant that works has been a challenge until now. Benedetta’s BEST Deodorant is the first one that I’ve felt works with my natural body scent, leaves a freshness and helps with sweat. There’s a thoughtful formulation created to achieve these very results.

benedetta_bestdeo.jpg

I loved chatting with Benedetta founder, Julia Faller. She’s a believer in adhering to organic & biodynamic practices as she began her skin care formulations. One could call her a pioneer in this industry with over 20 years of expertise in her Farm-Sourced® Holistic Skin Care Line that’s completely made from plants and botanicals.

My Interview With Julia

ANDREA: Briefly tell me how you became interested in holistic health and how Benedetta evolved out of that?

JULIA: It was a process of who I am as a human being and what my choices were at an early age, and how that propelled me into conscious living and conscious thinking. Spiritually, I was looking for the truth in the way I saw my life. I searched for the guru, the yoga master… I think all of those things pave way. If you’re taking yoga or you have a meditation practice or a discipline, whatever that discipline is— it really does bring you into a state of consciousness and through that all things are possible. I think my lifestyle of many decades by the 1980’s initiated my desire to create something that nutritionally fed the skin. I started with the hydrating elixir’s without a vision or marketing plan for more. After seeing it’s usefulness, the elixir’s became the catalyst for the full line to evolve.

ANDREA: What is IN The Best Deodorant? And what makes it THE BEST? (I concur)

JULIA: There is a proprietary blend of eight essential oils that are all locally sourced here in California and a biodynamic blend of a certified organic grape vitis vinifera alcohol. The specific formulation has everything to do with why it works. It targets odor causing bacteria and supports bringing the body into balance. Most people want less sweating and while I wasn’t going to do an antiperspirant, I did look at what oils could help counteract the bacteria that causes excessive sweating. We often hear people say “natural deodorants don’t work.” We sample this quite a lot because it’s important for our customers to see for themselves. It’s Benedetta’s best selling product and we are thrilled with the response.

ANDREA: What is your mission?

JULIA: It really began with service first. What I mean by that is, creating something that didn’t exist, finding buyers that didn’t exist at a time it just didn’t exist. It’s no different for the deodorant or anything that I do. At that time, I was appalled and outraged that the Marin county women had the greatest incidents of breast cancer in our country. I thought it was my duty to create something that wasn’t on the shelves. There really weren’t any deodorants that were free of parabens even at health food stores and I went to those places to let them know they were selling stuff that really wasn’t clean. I don’t know how loud my voice was but I’ve learned to think I’m a little intense— (we have a laugh). Within a couple of years everyone began talking about parabens being not so great and studies were being done. I didn’t look at marketing first or where to make the money, it’s truly been about service.

Tip from Julia: One thing I’d ask your readers to consider when choosing skin care & body care products or anything topical is to know what the purpose and function is behind it, holistically.

I won’t list the natural deodorants I’ve tried previously but I’ve done a lot of experimenting and I’m not kidding when I say, I feel like I smell worse after having used some of them. In my experience, Benedetta’s Best Deodorant is doing 100% of what Julia has shared the products purpose and function is. After the first few uses I felt dryer, almost odorless and like I could use it every other day and feel fresh.

I’m so inspired by people like Julia who are passionate about helping where there’s a need for products that are safe and clean. We both agree, that it’s wonderful to see the trend of clean products making a huge statement more than ever and how loud we are as consumers. Julia has been paving the way with a line we should all get more familiar with.

Inspired To Help Our Planet?

Well hello and Happy Earth Day guys! Doesn't a day like today give us reason to celebrate by showing some appreciation and also ask ourselves, "what am I doing to help our planet?"

I can honestly say... I WISH I WAS DOING MORE! My efforts can be grander, wiser and more thoughtful for sure, how about yours? I'm not going to give a long winded blog about how we can all be more conscious or list my greatest tips on what I think that looks like. Instead I'm going to say HAPPY EARTH DAY and simply encourage us to all get a little more curious about what we can do.

A few years ago I lead a yoga event in Malibu and a beautiful yogi named, Goli Gabbay attended. After the yoga we all we're visiting and getting to vibe with like-minded souls. As I learned more about her, she gave me one simple suggestion that has stuck with me. She said "just tell waiters at restaurants you don't need a plastic straw and if you buy them for home use— stop." Visit Goli's website for more on the impact she's making and desires to uplift people, animals and the planet. I don't claim to know her well, but in the few times I've met her she left a feeling with me of wanting to do more, try harder and get interested in how I can make changes to support our planet. Our curiosities lead to actions and our actions lead to results.

It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little— Do what you can

I lead a health conscious lifestyle, I recycle, I support sustainable & eco friendly companies and products wherever I can and make a great effort to buy less plastic! I do have metal, reusable straws which I love and use a copper water bottle {USE ANDREA for a discount on yours}. That doesn't seem like enough when I read about the plastic pollution problems alone. What if we all just picked one thing we could change or stopped buying or using that would support global wellness... the difference we could make would be incredible!

My favorite way to get excited about making change is to unplug and connect with nature... Hawaii was one place I spent time doing just that— simply appreciating our planet. We have to take better care of our home and together we can.

We need the tonic of wildness—to wade sometimes in marshes where the bittern and the meadow-hen lurk, and hear the booming of the snipe; to smell the whispering sedge where only some wilder and more solitary fowl builds her nest, and the mink crawls with its belly close to the ground. At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be infinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.
— Henry David Thoreau

Get out in nature today. Take a minute to look around, absorb it's beauty and remember we have a responsibility to nurture her with all we got! Happy Earth Day, have a wonderful week and THANK YOU for being a part of Inspirational Addict.

Allowing Yourself To Receive

What are we asking for and what are we receiving? I encourage us to explore this immediately so we can proceed in allowing the Universe to support us. Everything in our lives is in flow.

Wellness Influencer, yoga instructor Andrea Bogart Travels through india with Photographer Erik Almas.

As I lay on my back with acupuncture needles in various parts of my body... I'm drifting into a meditation with a mantra, "heal my mind, heal my body." The gentle voice of my acupuncturist says a few beautiful words, receive being among them. I'm reminded to ask for what I need and allow space to actually receive. It stirred up some thoughts for me. In my recent challenges with breast-feeding and production, perhaps I was so focused on needing to provide a solid milk supply for our baby-girl... I was forgetting the allowance of receiving what I needed in order to do so. It makes sense now. With a pretty simple shift in perspective my human ah-ha alarm is saying, "Andrea you know how to practice this."

I'm a believer in prayer, yoga, mediations, gratitude journals... all of which give me an opportunity to check-in, create joy and quiet the mind. However, receiving can become quite passive unintentionally as it's an action that happens all day long with e-mails, messages, phone-calls and various interactions. So how do we absorb the essence of receiving in a beneficial way?  We have to pay attention and be present to do this. Often at the end of my yoga sessions as I guide students into savasana I say, "allow yourself to surrender and receive the benefits of your practice."  The hope is that we are so connected to the present moment that letting go washes over us in a wave of compassion worth soaking up.

Wellness Influencer, yoga instructor Andrea Bogart Travels through india with Photographer Erik Almas.

Questions to ask yourself

  • What kind of energy am I putting out into the world through what I think, say and do?
  • When and where in my daily routine am I consciously making space to receive?
  • Do I feel worthy of receiving the things I ask my guided lights for?
  • Do I believe in the abundance of receiving without limits?

Are you getting into this with me now? The honest answers to those questions will guide you to clarity. If you feel some negativity flooding your immediate responses... seek gratitude, seek more gratitude and seek gratitude again, I promise it shifts things. Do that for yourself, because you CAN.

To this day, my Mom still says "the day you stop believing is the day you stop receiving." Although she is referencing our holiday spirit, the one and only Santa Clause... why not have this as a resourceful mantra for life too? We have to believe in the things we ask for. We have to believe in what we are deserving of and kick fear to the curb as it's often the culprit of pushing us off track.

I distinctly remember a time in my life where FEAR was winning at every turn. I was convincing myself of so many things that were not my truths because I was shaking in my boots that my guided lights would never grant me the things I most desired. I stopped asking and was putting a lot of bulls##t out there and guess what came back? A lot more bulls##t.  I wasn't allowing any space for receiving because I was too busy letting my hopes get highjacked. I'm super happy to say with some hard work and mindful commitments to self-love, I was able to wade back out of that mess, but I do remember that pitiful time well.

There is nothing to find, only to realize. There is nothing to become, only to be. There is nothing to fear, only to love.
— Marianne Williamson

It's the holiday season and I am by your side in making the worthy effort to receive more abundantly. Find the ways in which you connect to this effort best and make time for it. Remember everything in life is in flow... keep receiving as a part of your necessary flow. Thank you for popping by, I'm such a lover of communication so always feel welcome to share a story of your own or comment here.

What Are You Thankful For?

Are you thankful everyday? That doesn't seem like such an impossible task does it?

It's a form of expression we use time and time again as a gesture of good manners, being polite, showing appreciation, feeling gratitude... and so on. How does it look and feel for you? What impact does it have in your day to day life? It's simple yet complex in how we apply it to our well-being. A lot of us at times, (I'm including myself)... get caught up in; the day that's not going well, the unfinished business you're beating yourself up over, the mistakes you make which lead to complaining, grumpiness and wining to others. Let’s call that– the muck, the stuff that exists for all of us and sometimes isn’t managed with our best selves taking the lead. We’re human after all. Great news, that can all quickly shift when your awareness turns on thanks and gratitude. Find something that is going well about your day, be proud of what you are accomplishing, honor your smallest wins, quit complaining and change the energy you're putting out into the universe. Ground yourself, get present and be thankful. There are always, always reasons to be thankful. I know you’d agree.

Inspirational Addict Blogger and wellness influencer Sonoma Yoga Instructor Andrea Bogart in Erik Almas Photo talks Thank You

I love to fall asleep saying "my thank you's.” It’s a peaceful way to drift into those ever-important hours you dedicate to sleep. Take time to feel what being thankful brings to your soul in what-ever capacity works for you; journal, prayer, mantras... and be vocal in your daily manners with others (that goes without saying right)?

In the spirit of being thankful... can you believe Thanksgiving is this coming week? It’s one of my favorite holidays and boy did it sneak up on me fast this year. It’s a day that sure gives us reason to be thankful as families & friends come together for a delicious feast and usually some relaxing and fun. So take that THANKFUL heart into a beautiful week and wonderful holiday weekend with the ones you love.

THANK YOU for the visit and hope you keep coming back for more inspiration and stories! I love hearing from you, so if you have anything for me, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you!

XOXO ANDREA

WHAT DOES GIVING BACK LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Why should I or how could I... give back? Have you ever asked yourself that? No big deal if you haven't but I can assure you it's a worthy investigation for your soul.

The secret to living is giving
— Anthony Robbins
Inspirational Addict Blogger and Wellness Influencer Andrea Bogart talks giving back with recent Sonoma Fires on her mind as a new Sonoma Mamma with Erik Almas

Are you a helpful human? I’m a helpful human. I know I enjoy doing things for others. I'm sure we can share in that confidently right? I also can admit there have been times in my life where I thought I was too broke and way too busy making ends meet to give back in any sort of way. I snarled at street beggars and would think to myself “do better, try to get a job, I am”. I wasn't compassionately thinking about what their story may be. Those were very limiting beliefs. I am happy to say, that young and narrow mind of mine has expanded quite a lot since those days. It’s hard though… sometimes you just don't see how to help others if you’re struggling yourself. Let's grab a little insight together on this.

Ask Yourself A Few Things

Is there a cause you know your heart is drawn to? What are your passions? If you had a million dollars to spare what contributions would you want to make? What do you care about? Where would you like to make an impact? What does your spirituality look like? Feeling inspired yet?

The Northern California fires that just blazed in like a hurricane over wine country and my new home have given me reason to pause. I'd like to take how abundantly blessed we've been through it all and find ways to give back for those who've lost so much. I've never had to emergency evacuate before. Nor consider the safest decisions to quickly make with a newborn and partner you love dearly. I've never had a home of my own that I had to think about loosing so fast. I tend to think anyone who has experienced this would agree, you very quickly realize the only thing that matters is your families safety. While it's difficult not to implode with sadness when there is so much suffering in the world, you can shift a lot by focusing on gratitude and sharing that energy with others. Incredible strength has come from our Sonoma community in group and individual efforts. We've returned to signs of thanks for our firefighters and first responders posted everywhere and a sense of warmth engulfing this town with supportive conversations, smiles and waves to every passing neighbor, offers for home cooked meals, places to stay and introduced to loads of resources where people can help in a multitude of ways. Examples of giving back surrounds us.

Inspirational Addict Blogger Andrea Bogart and wellness influencer in Sonoma talks giving back after Sonoma Fires.

I joined The New Hollywood; a501c3 non-profit organization which is dedicated to supporting socially conscious storytellers and change-maker’s in 2014. I was so inspired by this group of women from the first meeting we had. They all have incredibly busy lives and manage to successfully wear several different hats AND are part of charity organizations doing a wonderful job supporting things they are passionate about. I got curious about how I could do more to give back and what that could look like for me. Inspiration is always a helpful tool when it comes to taking action yourself. Being a part of this group, hearing about what so many others do on small and large scales gave me insight to look and see how I could do the same. It's infectious.

Get Your Wheels Turning

My passions for teaching yoga, writing children's literature and acting have lead me to give back in all those areas by volunteering my time with aligned programs. These are really enjoyable ways to give back for me. What do you love to do?

If time is not available but monetary donations make more sense in some instances, I like to know what percentage directly get's given to the cause. Don't be afraid to get clarity on that. Watch out for things that say "some proceeds or a portion of" if you in-fact would like to know your offerings go fully into what you're supporting.

I love doing a major house cleaning a few times a year and donating requested items to the Veterans. They will pick up boxed or bagged goods at your door and you can schedule it. What may not be of use to me anymore may be extremely useful to someone else. This is a great one for kids to participate in when cleaning out toys.

Depending on your spiritual path and what your practice is... prayers cost nothing and are filled with intentions and love. Our family is especially grateful for all the prayers sent our way during the past few weeks and we plan to keep that prayer train moving. There is a lot of healing knowing there's positivity being sent your way, not to mention what you can put out there for others. We often have our greatest healing happen when we take that which feels heavy off of ourselves and redirect it into love and gratitude you can share.

Listen, I’m a new mama as of July and as a daily yoga practitioner, taking a break to let my body heal has been difficult and now that I’m cleared to get back at it, things hurt more than usual… which tells me how important it is to keep moving and stretching as we safely can. Not to take away from how valuable it is to listen to your body and rest as well. It’s been more important for me to relish in baby time and I have appreciated the break. Bonding with her is just the best. My life style has shifted so much recently, this years participation will be a new sort of challenge for me. As a member and leader with the TNH elective I will commit to 10 minutes alternating booty & core work daily and I will post an Inspirational Addict blog every Sunday to warm your soul on your journey! I’m excited to get my body back into shape post-baby and writing for my blog is such a passion and super challenging with a newborn, so I love the idea of committing to these things. Often we set goals that are just too much, too unrealistic and fail and then beat ourselves up about it. So take a beat to think about what will serve you well in this challenge mind, body & spirit, don't over do it, and get excited about committing to what you choose. That is how, together, we will create changes... hopefully some that stick with us long after our 90 days.

Click the link below for complete details and join us for the challenge. The “I want to sign up” button is waiting for you there.

ACCEPTING WHAT IS, HOW DO WE MASTER THIS?

Do you love or loathe the idea of acceptance? Are you attached to outcomes constantly? Questioning, worrying and shaking your crystal ball trying to predict situations before they happen? Does this clutter up your happiness?

When you get still, can you release your resistance to accept things as they are and move into a more mindful place?

These are important questions I ask myself, not just once but consistently and especially during challenging moments.

As I pack up 17 years of living in LA and head up North to Sonoma to start a new chapter, my emotions seem to be running wild in every direction. I've been catching myself in a place of limiting thoughts & anxiety recently. Although I'd like to chalk it up to having third-trimester-pregnancy hormones mixed with moving to a home that’s in renovations and leaving my close friends and career during it all… it’s time to check-in. I’d prefer not to use these as excuses or be factors that dictate my daily joy or the joy of the people closest to me!

Who loves a good reminder to check-in with yourself when you have a lot happening and you feel your attitude slipping into glass half empty mode? Take a deep breath… right now and SMILE if you do…we just created some awareness together.

This a a beautiful time of life for me, I’m really enjoying pregnancy and I’ve always been one to leap into change with my heart open ready to take it on.  I’m surrounded by tons of love and support so it's almost frustrating to sense my negativity internally and then give it more weight by vocalizing it all to anyone who is forced to listen. Do you ever annoy yourself in this way? I hope I'm not totally alone here… the good news is our awareness can propel us into a place of getting still. By doing this we can release the things that no longer serve us with clarity and peak in happiness over and over again as we accept WHAT IS and our judgments dwindle away. Let’s do this.

MASTERING ACCEPTANCE TIPS:

  • Where do you go to get quiet, connect with yourself and breathe? Sometimes it’s in a yoga class for me. Often it’s anywhere I can pause for 15-20 minutes. To hear the rumblings of the chatter in my mind to start to dissipate as I use a mantra or phrase to repeat internally and begin a meditation. Challenge yourself to create a consistent practice with a form of meditation that speaks to you.

  • Try not to forcefully push the negative or limiting thoughts away but see them and say “hi there, I hear you” and as gently as a fluffy cloud passing by in the sky, release them. If using a visual of your choice helps, do it. I love putting them in a balloon that I release or feel a gentle breeze lift them off me and carry them away. Get creative and change it up.

  •  Honor yourself with compassion as distractions and the rumblings most likely find their way back in. Consider the importance of observing your thoughts to be far more effective than emptying your mind out. Make sense? Continue to repeat the process of deeply breathing accompanied by your choice of mantra, visualization or simply getting quiet & still that supports non-judgmental acceptance.

  • Clarity will start to arrive no matter what form of meditation you create for yourself. The pause from your daily schedule is what will significantly affect your ability to connect to acceptance more gracefully and consistently. Present state of awareness is what we’re going for whether for you; that’s on a hike, in a gym or sitting somewhere quietly. Rejuvenating the mind is how we can let go of the overwhelming feelings & pressures that can get in our way of being more calm on a regular basis.

  • Pay attention and notice how this peaceful state influences your reactive mind and responses to the situations that might ordinarily get you flustered. We all want to be a happy as we can be right? So if there’s a way to use our mindful practices to assist in our moment to moment well being, I ask— why wouldn't we all want to do what it takes to slow down the chatter in the mind we are inundated with from the moment we wake up to the moment we fall asleep?

The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms

May I inspire you to check out the various styles of Mediation at  THE SECRETS OF YOGA for a wonderful & brief breakdown of each to explore. My personal favorite is Vipassana (and I too just learned it's called that.)

resources I love:

What jumpstarted my practice that lead into a commitment has been guided meditations by Deepak Chopra and Oprah as they offer Free 21-Day Experiences periodically. I love them and often use them at night as well guiding me into a peaceful sleep. Going to the library and choosing one for a family member or friend makes for a great gift too!

Mindsail is a fantastic App that I was more than delighted to do the VOICE for the MoodBoosts component which you can access prior to subscribing. Two of my wonderful yoga clients developed this self-help vault giving you unique insights and tools to make better choices and live a happier more fulfilling life.  Is it strange to listen to my own voice to boost my mood sometimes... cause I do:)

I also have mad love for ZIVA Meditation as I deeply related to Emily Fletcher's lifestyle which lead her to study and create ZivaMind

Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked
— Patañjali, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

My hiatus from actually publishing blogs recently has not felt great! I love sharing stories, tips and connecting with all of you regularly so these last few weeks I've had to honor that life has offered me priorities that won over some of the other things I was hoping to achieve. I don’t think there is a person out there that can’t relate to that feeling at some point. It's hard to accept isn't it? When you want to be doing something you somehow can't make time for.

I often share that getting on my mat to stretch, breath and connect with deeper sense of self and meditating are my healing resources. They are. The challenge is to maintain a reflective state of mind to that calm, peaceful state when things in life feel the opposite. I’ve been making time to meditate, get on my mat and today I honor that I was able to write on an entire flight! It feels so darn good.

Thank you for popping by. We're all in this life together, never forget you are not alone. We have the ability to connect, communicate & relate to each other through our experiences... thank you for letting me share mine with you. You know how much I love hearing from you. The comment boxes are yours to share back... sending all my love and happy blessings each and every day!

Evolving From A Multitasker to A Singletasker... You Ready?

Hello wonderful humans! I'm coming right out to ask... are you constantly tempted to multitask?

IMG_0945.JPG

According to the Author of The One Thing "Since the 1920’s the word multitasking has existed but it was’t until the 1960’s that it was being used to describe computers, not something the human race did."

A girlfriend calls: “Hi Dre what are you doing?”

Me: “I’m multitasking a million things like champ, getting stuff done… you?”

I admit it, that’s actually come out of my mouth for years now. I wore that phrase like a badge of honor, truly believing I was efficient in doing many things at once. Thankfully several resources including meditation, yoga and helpful literature have all inspired me to see how ineffective multitasking actually is. I'm challenged continuously and catch myself over and over again having to stop, realize I'm doing it and change my patterns.

For example; I can memorize lines for an audition as I listen to upbeat music with lyrics, I can be on the phone and attentively listen as I unload groceries, I can read articles and pay bills on line switching from tab to tab while also creating Spotify playlists for my yoga sessions. These are are just a few of the things I thought I could do at the same time and do well. It really wasn't until I began consistently going to yoga that more awareness of myself & distracting habits surfaced and meditation helped me understand how to practice changing it. Get connected to the word practice, I use it a lot and find so much comfort knowing my growth lies in my commitment to practice... EVERYTHING.

In the middle of writing an important email you stop and switch tabs to your on-line banking to pay some bills, then you decide to hop up and make a snack then back to the computer, someone texts you and you start engaging and before you know it you’ve just wasted two hours and not completed one thing. This is embarrassingly sometimes my day. I don’t want to pull anyone down here with me… but tell me I’m not alone?

When I look at my todo list, I know I’m notorious for making long one’s. I even put the lists into categories and it’s still daunting. It's quite aggressive to think I could get it all done in a month let alone a few days. Do you do this too? It’s my attention span that often has to be redirected. How disrupted are you by your own thoughts? It's apparent that distractions surround us constantly and we will drive ourselves nuts if we don’t create a unique, personalized system that releases our ideal of doing several things at once. Let's start there. Deep breath in and out... and release the need.

We want to actually complete tasks, we want to feel amazing about getting multiple things done... but in order of importance not scrambling them together like your best breakfast omelette, right? So how do we redirect our energy into doing one thing at a time? I love the juggler analogy The One Thing uses, "even a juggler, catches one ball at a time."

TIP #1: IDENTIFY WHEN YOU'RE MULTITASKING

Catch yourself and pause. Reflect for a beat about it bringing awareness around it. Re-direct your actions into what's most important and follow through on one single task. Then move onto the next. Have a chuckle about it.

TIP #2: ENJOY THE PRESENT MOMENT

Challenge yourself to be completely present in doing one thing at a time. Notice how different you feel. Enjoy and appreciate how wonderful it is.

TIP #3: ENGAGE IN A MEDITATION PRACTICE

For me, this is it. Meditation is what calms the mind and creates a rich connection to the self and your ability to be still. Try 5 minute MOODBOOSTS with me as I talk you through various ways to quiet the mind with the Mindsail App. Sit with your beautiful self and love it.

I have no doubt without yoga and meditations I’d be a total basket case still trying to master the art of multitasking, determined to be the best at it. No matter what your fitness routine or mindful practice is... can I inspire you to capture the essence of slowing down and taking one thing at a time?  With how fast things come at us these days, connecting to your ability to enjoy something moment by moment will enrich your capacity to be present with yourself, the tasks you want to achieve and others who are graced with your presence more and more. I'm with you on this journey, I love the challenge it presents and look forward to doing less with more focus as a singletasker.

Thank you for stopping by. If you have any great tips about being a better singletasker... send them my way! Let me know if you find any of these tips helpful... share your progress! I'm so proud of all of you.

5 Mindful Tips For Maintaining Your Vibrant Energy This Holiday Season

Hello there, hope you're having a wonderful, Soulful Sunday!

November and December are often the months that become the most challenging to carve out time for our mindful activities and physical exercise. We are inundated with social gatherings, cooking, travel plans, shopping, wrapping gifts, kids programs, entertaining guests and all the extra holiday prepping.  For many, it's a time of stress and letting go of those mindful choices we've been so diligent with. We can and should allow the holidays to be a time of enjoyment with family and friends but doesn't have to be a time of loosing our health. So let's make a plan for maintaining our vibrant energy this holiday season, are you with me?

Making some commitments to yourself is a great place to start. Decide how you want to feel during the holidays. Set an uplifting, positive intention for yourself and refer to it in those moments of challenge. For example, "I'm thankful for the abundance of love and healthy choices that support me this holiday season". Try these 5 mindful, energizing tips I've found to be helpful.

Tip #1 Hydrate Right:

Drinking approximately eight, 8-oz glasses of water each day. Proper hydration is beneficial for so many things; glowing skin, digestion, fatigue from dehydration, to name a few. Carry a water bottle with you all day and pay attention to the water you drink. Purified and alkalized can be more replenishing. I also fill up a glass of water before I go to bed and drink it as soon as I wake up, one glass down. Whoop Whoop water is good!

Tip #2 Shop Mindfully For You and Your Family:

You'll reach for healthy snacks and prepare more conscious meals when you have healthy food to choose from. When the cookie jar is out... it's hard for the whole family to keep their paws off. Try having a fruit bowl out instead. In today's market of GMO's and an abundance of sugars put unnecessarily in our food, it's never been more important to read the ingredients. Help you and your family eat healthy and buy organic whenever you can. We the consumer can have a huge impact in the food industry through what we buy and don't buy.  You got this.

Tip #3 Schedule Your Physical Exercise:

When your calendar reads; go to the store, kids holiday program, dentist appointment... add walk for 30 minutes, stretch my limbs or some physical exercise you know you enjoy to that calendar too. Involve a friend or the family, buddy systems make it even better. Move your body at least 3 days a week. Even more if you are regularly active. Seeing it scheduled in your daily calendar is so helpful. Remember how great you feel after and stay committed. You're awesome.

Tip #4 Delight In Saying No:

The holidays are filled with a lot of offerings which can lead to over-indulging and over-committing. Invitations galore, another glass of wine, desert buffets, spiked eggnog and more. Create some awareness for yourself and try not to be neurotic about it, find the joy in moderation. Say no to the invitations you truly don't mind missing or have time for and use your will-power when the food and drinks are offered repeatedly. You're so gracefully strong!

Tip #5 Get OutDoors:

There is nothing better than stepping outside to smile at the sun and breathe in some fresh air. No matter where you are, can you be the one who says, "let's go outside, toss the ball around, go for a stroll, play in the leaves, build a snow-man, explore a new area"? Of course you can. You'll also be tapping into that child-like energy that always feels uplifting. Get back into your body with some deep breaths and let nature boost your mood and calm you down all at the same time. How fun are you?

How do you guys feel? I hope some of these tips are things you find manageable and helpful through the holidays. I love hearing from you so reach out anytime. Let me know what's working and what's not, I'm here for you! I wish you a healthy and happy kick-off to the holiday season.

To enjoy good health, to bring happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him

HOW AWARE ARE WE?

Hi there lovelies, hope you're having a beautiful Sunday.

Photo By Erik Almas in Dubai

How aware are we I ask?

We can be aware of the obvious things for sure; emotions we feel, our responsibilities, the routine of how we move through our days, food we eat, amount of exercise we get, what we tune-in to and tune-out, judgments we make on ourselves, energy we put out into the world… you get the idea. Do you ever wonder if you’re just going through the motions of life missing out on that deeper connection to your self-awareness? And even more importantly, how does your answer make you feel?

A few helpful questions to increase your awareness with the examples I listed above:

  1. Do you push away emotions or invited them in?
  2. Are you enjoying or dreading your responsibilities?
  3. How present are you as you move through your day?
  4. Do you make food choices that support your health and goals?
  5. Is it important to you that you get daily physical exercise?
  6. What kind of environment are you creating for yourself?
  7. Are you judging the choices you make with compassion or negative self talk?
  8. Would the people in your environment say you are kind, loving and joyful to be around?

I truly believe, through our awareness it as just as easy to create wonderful, life changing habits as it is to fall into bad ones. It’s the desire to be aware that will dictate how much you enrich your life and strive for your greatest potential. We all want this don’t we? Take a moment to smile here and thank yourself for the awareness you have and trust that you are only going to expand and grow from here on out!

Various circumstances and mainly excuses kept me from committing to a yoga practice many years ago and I wouldn’t have had a clue how to meditate. Sit still and be quiet, oh my... I couldn’t do that, that’s just weird unless I’m sleeping… would have been my inner monologue. When I landed in a yoga practice I loved, I began to lean-in to how I could expand my awareness and that uplifted me. Being a witness to the challenges I faced on my mat revealed the same challenges I had in life and I wanted to look at that. Yoga was becoming an emotional experience filled with vulnerability, happiness, resistance, letting go of ego, challenges, peace and a wonderful sense of increased awareness. Not to mention, keeping me in great shape. I fell deeply in love and made it a commitment I knew I had to share with others.

There are days I’m extremely proud of my progress with being aware, present and connected and there are days I ignore my significant other as I create a social media post while I juggle car keys, grocery bags and getting the mail

I love inspiring a mindful lifestyle in general and as a yoga instructor I have a responsibility to my students to encourage them to connect to their awareness.  My hope is that it propels each person to want to live a mindful life filled with happiness. Being an instructor doesn’t make me better, more self-aware or give me super powers but I see it as a beautiful gift that serves my life well and supports my core beliefs in the effort to practice what I share.

In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently

It's such a pleasure to sit and think and write about things I love and that helped me along the way. If it speaks to you in some way, comment or share something with me.... I love hearing from you guys. Have a blessed day filled with awareness!

Tips To Keeping Our Mind, Body & Soul In Check

How many times do we get too busy, hit a slump or get off track with our physical and mental health? Do you find that this happens most when we actually need it most? If you answered YES... keep reading for inspiration. Believe me, I'm with you.

We often end up coming down on ourselves when we don't fulfill the expectations we've set. So let's ask ourselves what are the most important things we want to keep in check with? This can change of course. In this moment, get focused on some nonnegotiable's for yourself. Try to establish a time to do this at the beginning of each week. Make it your Mind, Body, Soul little checklist!

Can you connect to the emotions  and visualize how you feel when you stay committed? Breathe into that for a few moments. Does it make you smile, are you uplifted, do you feel better? These are the things you want to keep in-check with when the excuses want to high jack your motivation.

A few of mine are;

  1. Moving my body daily
  2. Put healthy organic food into my belly
  3. Quiet my mind with gratitude
  4. Getting enough sleep

I continue to learn that no matter what, when I do these things I am going to feel better and even if my list of what I hoped to get done falls dramatically short, I can still be compassionate toward myself. And that definitely leads me to be more compassionate towards others as well. So take this for a test drive. Next time that voice is saying "I don't want to," pause and visualize the sensations of the result of how you feel when you follow through with whatever your mindful actions are and see if that helps propel you into action rather than excuses.  Make choices with acceptance and awareness, not punishment and guilt. You'll find yourself following through with your mind, body, soul priorities more and more.

Are you facing some challenges? Let me know if any of these quick tips help? I love hearing from you guys!

We Are Never Too Old

Hello lovelies— Have you ever asked yourself, "how old do I feel?"  And if so, on a fairly consistent basis, would you say it is younger or older than you actually are? If the answer was older don't get discouraged here... we're just going create some awareness and maybe even shift our perspective if necessary.

In recent years, as my birthday rolls around I continue to ask Mom & Dad, "are you absolutely sure you had me in when you say you did... I'm feeling like I should see my birth certificate?" The smiles beam through the receiving end of that call. I'm proud to say I feel younger than I am.  I know for sure it wouldn't be this way if I didn't re-arrange my lifestyle about seven years ago and make my health and wellness a priority I'm committed to.

As I climb up into an old oak tree, I'm reminded of my youth and how many trees like this I've climbed over the years to play and see things from a different view. Comparably, this is how I look at my current age; playful & from a different view.

After an inspiring chat with my one of my best friends last week about her turning another year older and how she too can't believe our actual age (we cringe) because our physical age feels much younger (we laugh), I got excited to write about this. She is one of my most adventurous and brave girlfriends who nurtures her health and wellness and challenges herself to great heights as that once a year event continues to strike. We wrapped up our talk with love and laughter as I wished her a Happy Birthday and the best of luck on a climb she was headed for. She just completed it Friday with her husband, who is equally motivating and sent me a breathtaking photo. Here's an example of her great heights...

I read an article awhile back on Medical Daily that caught my attention about your biological age being different from your chronological age. Naturally, I want to know!  Well, I'm thrilled to report after a series of questions answered truthfully, I'm 12 again? WHAAAAT? Now that's just a little young but I'll take it. Want to find out your Biological Age? Leave me a comment if you do it. Remember, fun + awareness.

I share all of this because creating a consistent yoga practice, adding clean organic food into my daily eating habits and quieting my mind with a mediation practice has changed my life. Physically, I don't suffer from severe joint pain any more. I'm stronger and more flexible than when I was 18 years old and a professional dancer. I rarely get sick. I honor where I'm at each day when I get on my mat. I treat all of this as a practice which gives me the freedom to enjoy the journey and accept all the imperfections in the process. So when a best friends says she feels young and vibrant I get to graciously say, "I'm so happy for you, me too".  I wish this for everyone. As we navigate our way through the food industry, explore exercise we enjoy, expand in our minds and create the life we want to feel our best in, can I inspire you to NOT let your chronological number be something that stops you?  If you're telling yourself you feel old, you're too tired, you won't see a difference with your efforts... that is potentially all true. So stop that. Shift your perspective, replace excuses with actions that support you and embrace all the power you have even in your thoughts to be thriving, visualizing yourself doing all the things you want to be doing. It's never too late to get curious and make changes about how to live a better, healthier YOU. I'm proud of you already!

More Issues Than VOGUE? Admit It, It's All Good

Do you ever feel like you've got more issues than VOGUE? Me too, admit it, it's all good.... let's have a smile about it.

I saw this and had to snag it from Pinterest. Why? Because there are days I feel like this. No matter how much self care I do, how happy I feel, how healthy I am... there are days I can still create a laundry list of things that are just crappy feeling. Are you with me on this? The important thing here is to recognize this behavior. It doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't have these emotions or lists, good gracious we're human. However, I will encourage you to invite them in and make friends with them. You most likely will be laughing at yourself in a few moments or at the very least be leaning into an opportunity to shift your perspective about them all.

            "I'm not a model moment"

           "I'm not a model moment"

Example of my internal dialogue:

Ugh, oh boy, I'm so tired. I look like hell. I'm over caffeinating myself... that's probably why you're bloated and your skin is bad. Wow, is that another gross sun spot? Hmmm, maybe I'll have another cappuccino. Shoot, I have to hurry.

Flipping this inner dialogue around:

Deep breath in and exhale out. Well hello there 5AM rise and shiner. You are vibrant for being up this early. I'm going to have less caffeine today so let's start with a big water to hydrate my awesome skin.  A green juice will get me going and glowing. I am grateful for this day. Meditation here I come!

So now I've made friends with my thoughts. The negative internal dialogue can habitually be depleting of joy and happy thoughts. It's work you guys. I keep reminding myself of this. Getting into healthy habits and positive self talk is a process. If you've ever trained for anything at all you understand the dedication it takes to achieve results. Whether you have or not, can I inspire you to train yourself to start living a more joyous life? What if you treated yourself the way you'd treat a friend you want to show love and support toward.  Does that help? When I thought of it like that, it helped me. Filling ourselves with compassion is not always easy but it's certainly better to work on it than settle for being mean and unkind, which doesn't do any good. The issues we often think we have are emotions we give more weight to by fixating on them rather bringing a consciousness to what it is we'd like to change, see differently or with courage... accept.  Society shows us this as well. We all can fall victim to thinking more likes, followers, subscribers or being noticed in any form will make us a better person. This is where we "check ourselves before we wreck ourselves," (thank you ICE CUBE for the variation of lyrics I borrowed) Your authenticity, kindness and creativity you cultivate will connect with and be seen by those who appreciate the light in you. The issues you think you have will blur into the backdrop as clarity arises in the foreground! Believing is seeing.

I challenge you to four daily rituals you can incorporate to any part of your day:

  • Say something positive to yourself when you look in the mirror.
  • Make eye contact and send a smile to someone in passing.
  • Jot down three things you're grateful for. (I use a gratitude app I love)
  • Do something physical that makes you feel alive and uplifted for at least 10min.

Thank you Sue Fitzmaurice for this little gem reminder

To be nobody but yourself in a world that’s doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight. Never stop fighting.
