Love To All The Mamas On Mothers Day

Happy Mother's Day Mama's. I hope you are showered with love today for how remarkable you are. Take time to thank yourself for all you do... and don't be afraid to get a little spoiled.

It's my first official Mother's Day and it has me beaming as I look at my daughter and reflect on how beautiful creating a little human is. The experience of Motherhood is absolutely extraordinary isn't it? It comes with so many feelings & responsibilities that aren't always a walk in the park either so I love that there is an extra special day to celebrate how tremendous MOTHERHOOD is. Let's give it up to Woodrow Wilson for establishing this as National celebration more than 100 years ago.

Because I feel that, in the Heavens above — The angels, whispering to one another, —Can find, among their burning terms of love — None so devotional as that of ‘Mother
— Edgar Allen Poe

Even if you aren't a mama, YOU were brought into the world by one and that is just another reason to pause and feel thanks. Cherishing my Mom for all that she has done for me and countless sacrifices she's made to make life a little sweeter is on-going. I can't even begin to explain how happy it makes me that she "finally" get's to see me as a mama. My babygirl will have an opportunity to experience how lovely she is—Grandmas are so very special.

I say "finally" with grace. Beginning Motherhood at forty years old wouldn't have been what I ever imagined as I wrote in my dear diaries growing up. I see now how life's up's and down's placed me perfectly where I needed to be. Sometimes trusting the timing of your life can be so hard but also the most beautiful sense of contentment when you arrive. Today I'm still pinching myself in awe of the wonderful man I'm about to marry and with his help... I became a mom ten months ago. It's changed me forever in the best ways possible.

I hope I can be an inspiration in leading a healthy, happy lifestyle for you and your family regardless of the age you get started. I offer my strength and courage to the women who think they've missed their window or have lost faith in finding that amazing partner to share in the journey of parenthood with you. If you know you are destined to be a mother, never loose site of that. And if you know you want to share that experience with someone else... believe they will find you.

There was a time where I convinced myself I would be fine if I didn’t meet the right person to share my life with and get to have a family of my own. I was consumed with limiting beliefs and fear was highjacking the life I hoped for. I believe the shape that my life took once I really committed to yoga— which lead to healthier choices and a deeper sense of compassion for myself and others is what opened my heart to receive and give the love I have in my relationship today. As a parent I hope to continue to deepen these practices and create mindfulness in our home that everyone in our family will grow from. My life is bigger and fuller than I thought it could be. I'm wishing you all that and more.

I'm forever grateful for having a mother who instilled the values and belief's I want to pay forward with my daughter. I cherish all the mama's in my life who give endless support and advice and all the ones inspiring me from afar. I share in celebrating ALL OF YOU today!

Thank you for stopping by. Comments and shared experiences are always welcome here... Happy Mother's Day wishes.

Mama Joy's Filling My Cup

Hello lovelies... are you parenting too?

Mini heart explosions, staring the day away observing their every move, nuzzling so hard it brings you to tears, feeling a kind of deep love that's hard to put into words? It’s so true, all of it... and it brings such joy to my life— having a baby.

IMG_5808.jpg

It’s not possible to quantify how much happiness bringing another human life into this world gives a parent. Let’s just agree it’s absolutely the best thing ever! Suddenly you're home with this amazing being and you feel the desperation to do things as if there is a set guide book on how to be the best parent raising the greatest kid on earth— anyone else feel that? Take some deep breaths, tune-in to your courage, faith and trust your intuition. You will feel so connected with your tiny babe and in my experience... you will not be lead astray. You're a brilliant team. You are YOUR team, no one else's.

Of course, we will call friends, ask our own mother's and lean into resources for guidance, especially if you're a first time parent. In my quest to find answers to questions during my pregnancy and once our little bunny entered the world, I came across one too many articles that frankly scared the bejeezus out of me. I wasn’t intending to stumble upon so many; “what they don’t tell you” kind of stories about vaginas, fatigue and more. No offense, I’m an open book and I like some insight as much as the next one, but I really wanted and needed to focus on all the good and encourage my powerful mind and body to keep manifesting the greatest experience of a lifetime.

IMG_5600.JPG

So for all of you; mamas, soon-to-be, hoping to be or praying for a miracle. YOU are incredible. I REPEAT, trust in this perfect journey and your undeniable intuition. Mama joys are an everyday occurrence and as easy as it can be to slip into negative thought patterns of doubt, worry and even failure... I PRACTICE catching myself, shifting perspective and choosing trust, courage and joy. We are six months into parenthood and a good portion of it feels like I’m getting to re-live being a child. Parents, do you feel me? Here's some fun things to try if you're just getting your feet wet.

FUN and FUNNY (me not the baby)

  • Early to bed, early to rise… passing out mid meal, with a bit of drool.
  • Making mouth noises ranging from fart sounds to motorboats.
  • Singing songs like you know the melody and lyrics but just make up your own, terribly cute isn't it?
  • Performing giggly goo’s and monkey moves as if that is strong choice to get your babe to laugh. It is though, am I wrong?
  • Challenging your character voices during story time to see if your baby recognizes the changes... the looks I get from our girl are priceless.

These are just a few of the ways in which we get to visit our playful minds again, all for the sake of getting the love and attention from our little explorer looking to discover new things.

HONOR

  • The ability to pull yourself out of a deep slumber at lightening speed to feed and or nurture your babe back to sleep. And then yourself.
  • Becoming Octamom or dad, yes a parent with multiplying, helpful appendages where suddenly even your toes, feet & elbows become more useful than you thought was humanly possible.
  • Your partner or whatever kind of system you have raising your child. We are all imperfect and feel it so verbal validation and giving our loving support as consistently as changing diapers is a major WIN on all accounts for everyone.

It's incredibly important to applaud yourself often and wrap your parenting team up in compassion. We are responsible for a new life and it's not easy... honor all that you are doing.

DELIGHT

  • The milestone changes that happen so quickly, from smiling while they sleep, giggling out loud, roll over, get teeth, hug you and taste food for the first time, to name a few.
  • The connection you create between your tribe... the bond is incredible. It's indescribable and will cause your heart to swell repeatedly.
  • The poops, especially the explosive one's that travel beyond the diaper and can cause a 15 min time-out at any part of your day. Just lean into a fun pew-wee potty song and it will be over fast. You just must delight in this.

Sometimes we get so busy we miss what's happening right in front of us. The number of times I get delightfully sidetracked from perhaps what I was intending to do to see our girl play with a toy independently, explore a new space, sleep like an angel... or whatever it may be, is worthy of reminding myself to be present.

LOVE

  • Speak it, show it, be it. I don't believe a baby can be over loved in any capacity. Smother away, I say... a million kisses a day.
  • Relish in the love you receive, embrace it fully and let it guide you like a light through the questionable, worry-some times.
  • LOVE yourself for all the choices you make, the things you learn and grow from as a parent and for braving what some would consider being the most challenging thing a human can experience— raising a happy, healthy, kind child. AMEN

My heart was set on writing a blog about a few of the extraordinary pieces of parenthood that make us smile. The LOVE we give and receive is simply perfection. You can't go wrong with loving your babe. The joys of being a parent are steadfast. Growing abundantly daily. Remind yourself of these very things when difficult moments arrive. And there will be difficult moments. If any of you parents who have far more experience than me have some fun stories to share back... I'm ALL ears! Thank you so so much for popping by. Happy parenting!

My mother’s gifts of courage to me were both large and small. The latter are woven so subtly into the fabric of my psyche that I can hardly distinguish where she stops and I begin.

International Love For Your Traveling Heart

Do you love traveling abroad? It's hard for me not to fall in love with new places. There is something spectacular about exploring, seeing things for the first time and feeling captivated by the unfamiliar. If you ever happen to fall in love with more than just the place, like perhaps someone from another part of the world, it's a pretty good idea to familiarize yourself with their cultural upbringing. Although this may not pertain to you, may I inspire you to read on anyway?

Yoga Instructor Andrea Bogart shares time with Erik Almas traveling around Norway, blogger for Inspirational Addict.
Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one’s lifetime
— Mark Twain

After living in Japan in 1999-2000 I increasingly became curious about how to absorb more as I ventured through various parts of the world. Typically you snag your Travel Guide Books, head to Pinterest for how to pack, download your Duolingo and boom you're on your way. You never know when an opportunity may rise for adventure or you become goo-goo eyed and end up sharing your life with someone from a country you’ve never been to and know very little about. How fun is that... and slightly intimidating.

This is my third winter bundling up and heading to my mans home town of Trondheim, Norway where the night falls nineteen hours of the day during this time of year. For three hundred delicate minutes the sun dances on the rooftops in this storybook town and we hurry out to frolic like school kids at recess in the crisp, fresh air. It reminds me of the perfect scene that once upon a time, only sat beneath my grandmas Christmas tree with little colorful houses and towns people arranged flawlessly amongst the marshmallow puffs of snow. Twinkling lights glimmer from everyone's homes as if stars laid upon the peaks and valleys of the city. The winter wonderland we sing popular holiday carols about... well it truly exists. My bare eyes can hardly believe I get to visit here for the rest of my life.

After twenty seven hours of travel, four flights and one rock-star five-month-old baby we are welcomed with open arms and brought into Eriks families home who’s bustling with holiday cheer– it's so koselig (cozy). The first two years I did the travel on my own and I wasn't sure what to expect. He sent me this video to prepare me for my arrival. I was nervous after watching it, to put it politely.

Americans try traditional Norwegian Christmas dishes.

Needless to say Erik's family has never made me try anything too crazy and we always have exceptional organic home cooked meals. It's a special part of being in Norway with them for sure. I was also gifted “The Social Guidebook to Norway” that has been quite helpful in my understanding of some differences between American and Norwegian expressions.

I’ve found this language even more challenging to try to learn than what little Japanese i picked up, so there’s been some resistance. While I often still sit quietly at the table, yet intently watching everyone's mouths as Norwegian dialogue flies rapidly from mouth to mouth and laughter often bursts from a story just told, I wonder, how will I ever learn this?  I’m guilty of not putting enough effort into it yet and shame on me for that... I’m about to marry this man! I do plan to learn with our babygirl and get back to my Duolingo practice so I can at least say a few of my wedding vowels in Norwegian, wish me luck!

The amount of time you're traveling in a place will often dictate how much you immerse yourself in the culture. No matter how brief or long your stay may be... here are a few very simple tips of mine.

Find a Gallery

While you peruse a bit ask the employees for their favorite coffee shop or where the best place is to get an organic meal. Gallery peeps are in the know. They will send you to the most superb spots.

Be Active

I often take a yoga class in whatever city I'm visiting. If not that... rent a bike, go for a walk or run. I love to just feel like a local and doing any of these activities will put you there and familiarize you with the area you're staying.

Get a Little Lost

I love knowing where I'm headed but being able to wander around without relying on my google maps guiding me every step of the way is kinda great sometimes! Don't be afraid to get turned around and head the opposite way you meant to. Ask around to find your way again and explore the places you stumble upon. (Choose wisely when to do this, don't get yourself in a pickle)

If you're anything like me you can always prepare before you go... research on-line, look at pictures, seek out the cities top 10 things to do and so on. Just make room for some spontaneity and excitement to ensue so you can come home with little gems. Moments that took you by surprise.

Personal_Norway_Christmas2015__MG_3018.jpg

I hope to keep traveling the world and bringing you guys with me. I love hearing from you and by all means share some of your favorite places you've been with me. Hope you are rocking 2018 so far and thank you for stopping by.

What Are You Thankful For?

Are you thankful everyday? That doesn't seem like such an impossible task does it?

It's a form of expression we use time and time again as a gesture of good manners, being polite, showing appreciation, feeling gratitude... and so on. How does it look and feel for you? What impact does it have in your day to day life? It's simple yet complex in how we apply it to our well-being. A lot of us at times, (I'm including myself)... get caught up in; the day that's not going well, the unfinished business you're beating yourself up over, the mistakes you make which lead to complaining, grumpiness and wining to others. Let’s call that– the muck, the stuff that exists for all of us and sometimes isn’t managed with our best selves taking the lead. We’re human after all. Great news, that can all quickly shift when your awareness turns on thanks and gratitude. Find something that is going well about your day, be proud of what you are accomplishing, honor your smallest wins, quit complaining and change the energy you're putting out into the universe. Ground yourself, get present and be thankful. There are always, always reasons to be thankful. I know you’d agree.

Inspirational Addict Blogger and wellness influencer Sonoma Yoga Instructor Andrea Bogart in Erik Almas Photo talks Thank You

I love to fall asleep saying "my thank you's.” It’s a peaceful way to drift into those ever-important hours you dedicate to sleep. Take time to feel what being thankful brings to your soul in what-ever capacity works for you; journal, prayer, mantras... and be vocal in your daily manners with others (that goes without saying right)?

In the spirit of being thankful... can you believe Thanksgiving is this coming week? It’s one of my favorite holidays and boy did it sneak up on me fast this year. It’s a day that sure gives us reason to be thankful as families & friends come together for a delicious feast and usually some relaxing and fun. So take that THANKFUL heart into a beautiful week and wonderful holiday weekend with the ones you love.

THANK YOU for the visit and hope you keep coming back for more inspiration and stories! I love hearing from you, so if you have anything for me, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you!

YOU Are The Solution To Not Giving Up

We've all set out to achieve something at one point or another right? Can you relate to the notion of setting your expectations a little too high or wanting those immediate results and getting impatient to the point you give up? I'm soooooo with you. Together, let's find some solutions.... so we DO NOT GIVE UP.

Inspirational Addict Andrea Bogart Get My Body Back Influencer of wellness with Erik Almas Photography

I looked at my bum in the mirror the other day, scowled, and out loud said "this isn't working." Then I counted the days I've been doing my focused booty and core work and it's been 19 days since I began a 90 day Get My Body Back challenge with The New Hollywood; which is dedicated to supporting socially conscious storytellers and changemaker's. "Ok, seriously Andrea... were you expecting your bum and tummy to take a new magnificent shape over night?" I tend to give myself a hard time, do you?  I appreciate that I work really hard, I'm super committed to things I'd like to achieve and yet I will forget regularly to give myself credit for what I am doing and rant about what I didn't do or what's not happening for me. It's a trap that sadly feels natural doesn't it? I do however have enough awareness to recognize this behavior, catch myself and shift perspective fairly quickly now... that, I am proud of. How do we get there?

I know I often refer to my yoga practice and how much it's changed my life... but there's great reason for that; IT HAS. The practice itself with great mentors helps me grasp the tools to tap into those perspective shifting abilities. Being an instructor allows me the privilege to diligently share the very things that I continue to grow from. Writing this blog is another self-motivating tool for me, among several resources I love. Perhaps, YOU are not a yoga instructor, or blogger or spiritual seeker, all of which is completely OK.  So I ask you to take inventory of your life style choices, the people you surround yourself with and where you are in your efforts to stay committed to the the experiences that encourage you to live your best life and PAY ATTENTION.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop
— Confucius

You are brave. You are on a journey that is forever shifting. It's a process to invite in the things that we embrace long enough to trust they are changing us. Often we keep going because we see, feel and indulge in the results... which is amazing, so keep doing that. When the results are slow coming or we can't see or feel a difference quite yet, are we courageous enough to simply trust and admire our efforts? Can that be enough to keep us motivated? Join me in saying a big "Hell Yes"!

For all my GMBB5 members... keep on keep'n on, we made one heck of a long commitment to finish our year strong. We 100% got this! My booty and tummy will be patient... Determined by December is my mantra, you are welcome to borrow that too.

Lot's of love to all of you as always... if you have anything for me leave a comment.

Learning Value In Rising Strong

As a member of The New Hollywood I'm blessed to be introduced to many wonderful things that may not otherwise cross my path. This year our gift book, group read is Rising Strong. Although I love the act of curling up with a hard copy book when I can, I've also been listening to it on Audible  and equally enjoying it. This book is resonating with me on so many levels. I'm feeling the need to share and shout out through my cheerleading mega phone... THIS IS YOUR SUMMER READ!

image.jpg

I was first introduced to Brené Brown via a her TED talk "The Power Of Vulnerability" which circulated all over social media and 25,538,752 people have viewed.  The more I listen, read and take-in what Brené is sharing, I am having an experience that triggers the undeniable enthusiasm to live at my greatest potential. As a yoga instructor, I honor the responsibility of wanting to learn, love and share in a way that just may inspire you in the way others are inspiring me.  Leaders like Brené, dedicating themselves to research that speaks to the masses invites you into a place where you truly understand you are not alone in this game of life.

Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage
— Brené Brown
ThornsberryHouse_Images__MG_0076.jpg

How many times have you exhausted yourself with acting out your feelings in a way that you later regret? You say something you can't take back, you raise your voice, you cause a scene, you hurt someone's feelings, your thoughts are literally draining you as negativity overpowers the positive.  Seeing, believing and accepting the good gets blurred by old stories, bad habits and self doubt. If you're human you've experienced this at some point, haven't you? When do we decide enough is enough? How do we wake-up and prepare ourselves for the muck we're going to wade through to grow into a healthier place? Everyone's path is different, there is no question. From the wise words of another favorite human of mine, Pema Chodron, says Start Where You Are.

There are too many people today who instead of feeling hurt are acting out their hurt; instead of acknowledging pain, they’re inflicting pain on others. Rather than risking feeling disappointed, they’re choosing to live disappointed. Emotional stoicism is not badassery. Blustery posturing is not badassery. Swagger is not badassery. Perfection is about the furthest thing in the world from badassery
— Brené Brown, Rising Strong

When we're ready, we begin choosing to do things that create mindful awareness and shift the grappling with our choices into more of a soft snuggle. We are not handed a perfect life but we can create a life that feels perfect for us and find contentment with what we have. Shall we dive into the process of being kind, loving and experience our greatest good by peeling back our layers and trusting we have the courage to rise strong from every experience we endure? Let's do this.

I absolutely believe in the power we have with-in to change and give ourselves permission to start where we are. I hope you take me up on this summer read or at the very least join the millions and check out Brenés' TED talk. If it speaks to you in some way or you have anything you'd like to share.... I love hearing from you. Thank you for popping by!

Take a slow cruise around www.BrenéBrown.com for several more resources and encouragement.

My Unforgettable Night With Our Beloved Prince

Prince lovers everywhere are saddened by the news that we've lost another iconic artist way too soon. I've been a fan since my youth. Often lip syncing and twirling around my bed room and forcing even my shy friends to perform and make up choreography to his music at every slumber party.  Multiple dance and tumbling routines of mine over the years were performed to some of his greatest hits. I don't often make any fuss about meeting amazing people but this was Prince, The Prince, and my moment was inspiring to say the least.  Never in a million years did I think one day I would shake this legendary performers hand or melt with disbelief and a throbbing heart as he captivated my presence.  Shall I go on?

I wish I had photos but all I have is a fond memory implanted in my mind and heart which so far has been one of my most memorable nights since I moved to LA in 2000.  My girlfriend, Sarah and I got asked by Prince's private-party chef if we were available to pass champagne at his LA home for an intimate gathering. This was one of the last free-lance bartending jobs I had and boy, I can say I closed down that chapter of my life with bang! I think it was a no-brainer, YES, for us since we both were fans.  It sounded pretty lovely to be paid a substantial fee to simply greet guests and offer some bubbly as they mingled about hoping we may get to see Prince perform at some point, right? We were told no pictures and to not have too much interaction. Let's face it, you tell yourself to play it cool but that's pretty hard when you see someone like Prince glide into a room with a mysterious essence... you catch yourself trying not to stare and watch his every move like a stalker, suddenly the feeling of pop-rocks candy is exploding in your gut and you can't help but wish that for a moment he might just come say hello. A pretty natural feeling I presume?

And so he did. Not right away but eventually as the evening progressed, I caught eyes with him. Met with a smile, I asked if I could get him anything. He was kind and soft spoken. It was just lovely and enough as far as I was concerned.

No more than 30-40 guests had casually arrived and filled the upstairs, amongst them was none other than the late, Whitney Houston, which too was mesmerizing.  As cocktail time and conversations started to wind down, the guests migrated downstairs where the band was set up to perform. Sarah and I sort of lingered with wonderment and curiosity of what we may be missing down there as we cleaned and tidied things up.  We saw more of Prince strolling about various wings of the house so we knew the band was still jamming without him.  We eventually were guided down briefly to offer some champagne refills. The downstairs hallway was like a museum with a collection of pieces like his motorcycle, amazing guitars and the purple rain velvet outfit... pretty cool to see.  The quaint space accommodated the small crowd nicely and all seemed to be enjoying the band playing and getting their dance moves on even though,  there was no Prince.

                google images

                google images

It's now passing 2AM and we catch the band pack up and head out to valet.  And then something happens. The band comes back in and we are asked, along with any other staff that is there to head downstairs. There is less than 10 guests still hanging about that I can see. And there he is, less than 5ft in front of Sarah and I.  Dripped in a small pool of light, guitar in hand, eyes closed, the electric riffs began and for the next hour we were dancing like it was 1999, our doves were crying, we went crazy, we felt delirious, Sarah and I practically kissed, we melted wanting to be his lover and nothing compared to the purple rain we felt pouring over us 7 times and then some. YOU FEEL ME?

Whether or not Prince intended to perform his greatest hits for those who waited and held out to the wee hours or for his staff who delicately curated a perfect night, I for one was inspired by this random act of what seemed so kind and dear for just us. This will forever be a memory I cherish with my soul sister Sarah Sluder. This experience made me take a moment to pause and acknowledge that every terrible bartending job I did along the way may have just lead me to this unforgettable night with our beloved Prince.  R.I.P.

The coffee shop I'm sitting in today is playing the songs of this talented soul that inspired so many of us. It feels nice as I wrap this up. May we all take a moment and relish in a song that gave you a memory of some kind and share it with our youth and let his legacy carry with the world for years to come. Let me know what it is, what's the one your most likely to belt in the shower? I love hearing from you guys!

MY MIND IS RIGHT WITH TMAC FITNESS

THE LOOKER by TMAC FITNESS

You ready?  You too can work out with TMAC FITNESS by founder, Todd McCullough, like I did to get one heck of a work out in just 20 minutes. Take a cruise around Todds' website and your interest in getting your MIND RIGHT will be effected instantly. Clear some space and give it your all for 20 minutes. We can all sweat, smile and feel like a bad ass together!

Take TMAC with you as he's curated some amazing fitness programs for everyone that can be done anywhere. He encourages opportunities to create a healthy lifestyle for the busy individual.... and who isn't busy these days?

I was introduced to Todd a few years ago and he's been an incredible source of inspiration and wonderful human being to get to know.  After picking his brain a lot about how he maintains and continues to grow his fitness business and seeing how grounded and spiritually connected he is, I knew he was someone who would become a great friend.

When Todd asked if I'd like to be in one of his 20 minute videos I jumped at the opportunity to work with him.  Creating an overall healthy lifestyle has been much of my focus the past several years. With teaching as much yoga as I do, I often neglect doing cardio and exercises that get my heart rate up on a consistent basis.  After shooting THE LOOKER I was inspired to work on my tush by incorporating more squats into my weekly fitness routine; like the 10/2 jump squats and single legged squats you see (and hopefully will try) in our video.

I'm thankful Todd has been encouraging for me and is always connecting like minded people creating partnerships that compliment each other's work and aspirations.

Know the WHY behind everything you do. I work out because it makes me better in every aspect of my life-it empowers me. I encourage you to think of your workouts with more of a holistic perspective. The physical results will happen because you are shifting your mindset from short term gains to an empowering lifestyle.
— Todd McCullough
