FINISH THE YEAR STRONG with The New Hollywood And I

Hello hello, September is here... shall we make it a MINDFUL September to remember?

There is no doubt we could probably all use a little more; meditation, in-take of healthy foods and water, or perhaps that eight hours of sleep you know you function better with or making that yoga class you’ve been dying to start consistently— am I a little right? It may also be that you desire making a shift with a not so awesome habit into something that supports the best version of yourself. There’s usually something we would like to carve out more time for or something we’d like to change, stop or start.

Let’s first think about our LOVE for September…. what do you enjoy about this time of year? The last days of summer are gently being swept away as the cooler breeze delivers fresh morning smells, foggy sunrises and those put your back into it school vibes. As fall nears and our full harvest moon arrives we have an opportunity to release and reset for a magical season ahead. Pause for a moment in that September energy and think about it. If something notable arises, jot that down on paper.

After a summer of travel, family visits and pretty much endless amounts of fun— I’m loving that September brings a feeling of being grounded and I’m ready to hit a reset button and clarify what I want the end of the year to look like, mind, body spirit.

2018 Strong In Mind, Body & Spirit

Happy New Year from NORWAY! Isn't the start of a new year the biggest breath of fresh air?  I hope you've all relaxed, reflected and thought about what 2018 is going to look like for you; mind, body and spirit.

Inspirational Addict Lifestyle blogger Andrea Bogart, Yoga Instructor, new mom with Erik Almas

Whether you are they type of person who outlines your resolutions and goals for the year or someone who takes it in strides choosing one thing you'd like to focus on out of the gate.... do yourself a favor and keep it simple and clear.  I start with identifying what is going to serve myself and my life best and consider what it will take to make the change or changes. I'm fortunate to be part of a women's group www.TheNewHollywood.org out of LA that provides the members with a guide book and I believe, soon to be publicly available. It's a wonderful tool if used effectively that can help you create and manifest what you'd like to achieve and see happen in a year. We break it into quarters with points of focus for each that support our twelve goals or aspirations we've outlined. Although it takes time to sit down and do, it allows for more clarity and you simplify how to get there. I accomplish much more in a year since I joined this supportive group and use the book. There's certainly a plethora of ways to bring more joy, peace & motivation into your world and they don't have to be written down or outlined in a book, that is just a process I'm enjoying. I say do what works for you. Maintain the things that are already working and enjoy the possibilities of discovering something new. As we leap into 2018 together with enthusiasm, can I inspire you to fill it with gratitude and intentions in any form that serve you well?

Sonoma Yoga Instructor, Inspirational Addict Lifestyle Blogger Andrea Bogart, new mom, health and wellness with Erik Almas in Norway

My yoga & meditation practices are other incredible tools that have changed my life. They have looked a little different since I've become a new Mom but I've not lost site of their importance or my commitment. My baby-girl is seemingly growing fond of being on her play yard while watching mamma stretch and meditating while I breastfeed is sometimes just the best I can do. I'm profoundly more gracious and accepting of all the things I don't get done and take time to reflect on all the things that I do, which is a freeing space to be in. The awareness you create with mindful exercises will expand your life whether you had that intention or not. It's pretty great when it surprises you and suddenly you now know what to shift around to make them a priority for yourself. I trust they've been healing my soul and guiding me to a healthy lifestyle from the inside out for years now. It's an ever-evolving journey that thrills me as I jump on my mat over and over again and embrace the challenges of being able to sit quietly with myself. My passion for writing about it and sharing it with students as an instructor comes from what it's done for me. I will always encourage you to find the physical and mindful activities that make your spirit soar, that shake you up and make you feel alive. You will never be sorry for finding a way to incorporate them into your days regularly. Go get'm!

Ending The Year With Resilience, Who's With Me?

Hi gorgeous souls... hope you're all amazing and cruising into December with some grace and resilience. There is no time like the present to focus on what we have accomplished and use our heroic compassion to end the year strong.

Wellness Influencer, Inspirational Addict Blogger actress and Sonoma New Mom, Yoga Instructor Andrea Bogart photographed by Erik Almas

Back in early September I decided (with resistance) to be a leader for the 5th annual Get My Body Back 90 Day Challenge put on by my women's goals group The New Hollywood; which is dedicated to supporting socially conscious storytellers and change-maker's. As a member and leader I committed to ten minutes of alternating booty and core work daily and posting an Inspirational Addict blog every Sunday supporting our mind, body spirit journey. While the challenge ends December 11th and I did not successfully complete my ten minutes of alternating booty/core daily portion, I will successfully complete this year with some bad ass resilience so I can start 2018 out with a bang.

Who has ever set out to do something, even a small thing that you didn't complete and get to hold your glory torch for? Please tell me I'm not alone here? So what do we do with that feeling? It's pretty easy to fall into the negative-nelly lister trap. You take that one thing you didn't do and start dissecting how many other things you didn't do and pile it on top until you feel the weight like a sack of wet sand pushing you down. Let's not do that, OK?

I had every intention of just coasting through my challenge as it felt very manageable. I did not intend on being evacuated from our home and spending a month in hotels wondering if it would survive the devastating North Bay Fires that hit us hard in October (we were spared, I'm eternally gratefully). While I found great comfort in continuing my writing during that time and my Sunday blogs lived on... the booty/core work slipped to the side. I made a deal with myself to get back on track even though I lost the challenge. It's happening but not always daily. And may I mention when I say lost, my $280 I put in to participate will be going to a charity I love, Youth Yoga, so more of a gain than loss really. While no excuse matters in our book, I refuse to beat myself up about it. I am more interested in letting that show me something I can grow from... ahh resilience kicking in. For instance, how I can manage my time better or being ok with what's most important to me in crisis or how to pick back up with a positive mindset. Allowing discoveries and new opportunities to shine through instead of feeling like a deflated failure is where we connect to a greater good with-in. Let's jump in there together.

TIPS FOR BEING RESILIENT

  • PRACTICE GRATITUDE– I'm finding that I often find this at the top of all my tips and there's great reason for it. It works. Practicing gratitude has purpose that will shift your perspective instantly. When you take a failure, loss or negative attitude and start thinking about the silver lining your energy is now putting out more of what you'd like to have come back. Use this as a beautiful skill you are incredibly capable of doing anytime. My hack: take one thing you're feeling disappointed about and think about three reasons why it's all good.
  • GET CLEAR– Establishing clarity can be one of the most beneficial ways to put a strong attitude back on top. Respect your vulnerabilities by acknowledging your weaknesses and your positive attributes. When your humble, self-aware approach takes the drivers seat you will identity the why of situations more clearly. Save yourself from looking to blame others and own the things that are in your control to move forward positively.
  • IMPLEMENT A PLAN– Often we naturally think of failure as an end point. Not those of us practicing resilience! With a different view let's envision it as the start of a new opportunity to create a different approach. The choices we make with a desire to become better is a confident way of committing to your resilient mindset.
Where you stumble and fall, there you discover the gold
— Joseph Campbell

As another year is quickly coming to an end, I want to lean into all the magnificent things that have happened, the opportunities I've created, the goals I've achieved and absorb that... I hope you'll do the same. I have a guide book journal with my women's group that is such a great tool for this. I will be sure to let you know when they go on sale for the public. Until then, check out "Your Best Year Yet" by Jinny S. Ditzler, recommend to me a while back by an incredibly inspiring soul, Todd McCullough with TMAC Fitness. It's an extraordinary process to take yourself through and start out 2018 with great intentions and inspiration self-propelled. And that my friends feels amazing!

Thank you for taking the time to connect with your resilient self. I write often from a place of needing reminders on my own personal journey.  And guess what? It's almost Inspirational Addict's two year Anniversary so THANK YOU from the depths of my tender heart for sharing precious time with me here! Comments, shared experiences, tips are always welcome and encouraged with me, I love to know what you think and any feedback you feel inclined to express. Have a wonderful week and spread some Holiday Cheer.

Listen, I’m a new mama as of July and as a daily yoga practitioner, taking a break to let my body heal has been difficult and now that I’m cleared to get back at it, things hurt more than usual… which tells me how important it is to keep moving and stretching as we safely can. Not to take away from how valuable it is to listen to your body and rest as well. It’s been more important for me to relish in baby time and I have appreciated the break. Bonding with her is just the best. My life style has shifted so much recently, this years participation will be a new sort of challenge for me. As a member and leader with the TNH elective I will commit to 10 minutes alternating booty & core work daily and I will post an Inspirational Addict blog every Sunday to warm your soul on your journey! I’m excited to get my body back into shape post-baby and writing for my blog is such a passion and super challenging with a newborn, so I love the idea of committing to these things. Often we set goals that are just too much, too unrealistic and fail and then beat ourselves up about it. So take a beat to think about what will serve you well in this challenge mind, body & spirit, don't over do it, and get excited about committing to what you choose. That is how, together, we will create changes... hopefully some that stick with us long after our 90 days.

Click the link below for complete details and join us for the challenge. The “I want to sign up” button is waiting for you there.

One year of sharing INSPIRATION as a blogger has me super giddy! The blessings of world travels, snapping photos everywhere go and journaling my fingers off is supplying me with a blog library filled to the brim. I’ve experienced joy in writing like I never knew I could and it feels darn good to pay forward the things that help me in life with the hopes to inspire even just one person.  My dedication to writing has improved and I’m thrilled to keep it up! It has not come without challenges, frustrations, mistakes and resistance at times but I've been accepting that as part of the process of learning. The support with Inspirational Addict has been such a gift to my soul. All the partnerships, comments, likes, shares, insights and some incredibly beautiful e-mails have touched my heart in ways you can't imagine. It's exactly the kind of community and connection with all of you I was looking forward to. THANK YOU for sharing pieces of you back with me.

I remember, for years…literally years, writing in journals, “start your blog.” Constantly brainstorming names, subject matter, ideas, lessons, passions and writing a lot, but never doing it. I was researching how to start a blog forever it seemed. So as I celebrate one year, I'm proud to say "I finally did it!!"  It took some helpful resources and hunkering down with a plan to figure out how I'd get the first one published.

Do you have anything you want to celebrate with me? Of course you do… these are the treasures that we can build more inspiration, love and enthusiasm on! So think of something your proud of AND let’s cheer together! We all have daily wins... big and small, cherish them and use them as building blocks of goodness to take you higher. I know you have aspirations, brilliant ideas and goals you'd like to put energy into, right?  As we close another year it's such a great time to think about 2017. What amazing things are you going to accomplish this upcoming year? These basic tips can help get you going and be applied to anything that you're going to get focused on.

Tip #1: brainstorm as a free write what you'd like to accomplish

Give yourself some freedom here. Set your timer for 10 minutes and jot down all the things that come to mind you'd like to see in 2017. After your timer goes off, circle one that instinctually feels most important to YOU. Just start with one. You can circle your top 10 later doing the same process for each.

Tip #2: Outline briefly what it will take to get there

When you can visualize and see it written, you will take those steps to make happen. Let there be as many steps as there needs to be. This will help you get clear on your commitment.

Tip #3: create accountability for yourself

This is potentially the most powerful part. Whether you grab a buddy and have check-in's or you jot down deadlines for your steps... you must hold court and do your best to be accountable. Remember it's a process lead with positivity and patience if something isn't fully met.  Having a partner, friend or family share this experience is a great way to bond and support one another.

Several things lead to the extra nudge I needed to launch Inspirational Addict and it all circulated around me taking hours for a few days to sit at a coffee shop with the book "Your Best Year Yet". You've probably heard me mention, The New Hollywood, the women's goals and philanthropy group I joined in 2015 as well that's been an integral part of my growth and dedication. In support of what My Best Year Yet offers, TNH provides a useful guide book that I choose to put in that same effort with and NEWSFLASH; It's going to be available to the public in 2017.  Breaking down the year into quarters and what I'm going to focus on each quarter with my partner is a great way to see accomplishments and not overwhelm yourself. Between the support with this group of incredible women and with Erik, my fiancé and I always communicating about these things, really listening and offering assistance on how to help... I'm feeling like one blessed human whose thriving and being held accountable in a gracious manner.  I see my life unfolding not perfectly and not with every goal I wrote down being checked off but so filled with love and happiness and 90% are things I wrote, visualized, prayed for and kept positive thoughts about. I'm grateful for an incredible year.

So hop to it over the Holidays... have some fun, create YOUR 2017 in writing, with vision boards, send yourself a long VM recording... whatever works for you!

Evolving From A Multitasker to A Singletasker... You Ready?

Hello wonderful humans! I'm coming right out to ask... are you constantly tempted to multitask?

IMG_0945.JPG

According to the Author of The One Thing "Since the 1920’s the word multitasking has existed but it was’t until the 1960’s that it was being used to describe computers, not something the human race did."

A girlfriend calls: “Hi Dre what are you doing?”

Me: “I’m multitasking a million things like champ, getting stuff done… you?”

I admit it, that’s actually come out of my mouth for years now. I wore that phrase like a badge of honor, truly believing I was efficient in doing many things at once. Thankfully several resources including meditation, yoga and helpful literature have all inspired me to see how ineffective multitasking actually is. I'm challenged continuously and catch myself over and over again having to stop, realize I'm doing it and change my patterns.

For example; I can memorize lines for an audition as I listen to upbeat music with lyrics, I can be on the phone and attentively listen as I unload groceries, I can read articles and pay bills on line switching from tab to tab while also creating Spotify playlists for my yoga sessions. These are are just a few of the things I thought I could do at the same time and do well. It really wasn't until I began consistently going to yoga that more awareness of myself & distracting habits surfaced and meditation helped me understand how to practice changing it. Get connected to the word practice, I use it a lot and find so much comfort knowing my growth lies in my commitment to practice... EVERYTHING.

In the middle of writing an important email you stop and switch tabs to your on-line banking to pay some bills, then you decide to hop up and make a snack then back to the computer, someone texts you and you start engaging and before you know it you’ve just wasted two hours and not completed one thing. This is embarrassingly sometimes my day. I don’t want to pull anyone down here with me… but tell me I’m not alone?

When I look at my todo list, I know I’m notorious for making long one’s. I even put the lists into categories and it’s still daunting. It's quite aggressive to think I could get it all done in a month let alone a few days. Do you do this too? It’s my attention span that often has to be redirected. How disrupted are you by your own thoughts? It's apparent that distractions surround us constantly and we will drive ourselves nuts if we don’t create a unique, personalized system that releases our ideal of doing several things at once. Let's start there. Deep breath in and out... and release the need.

We want to actually complete tasks, we want to feel amazing about getting multiple things done... but in order of importance not scrambling them together like your best breakfast omelette, right? So how do we redirect our energy into doing one thing at a time? I love the juggler analogy The One Thing uses, "even a juggler, catches one ball at a time."

TIP #1: IDENTIFY WHEN YOU'RE MULTITASKING

Catch yourself and pause. Reflect for a beat about it bringing awareness around it. Re-direct your actions into what's most important and follow through on one single task. Then move onto the next. Have a chuckle about it.

TIP #2: ENJOY THE PRESENT MOMENT

Challenge yourself to be completely present in doing one thing at a time. Notice how different you feel. Enjoy and appreciate how wonderful it is.

TIP #3: ENGAGE IN A MEDITATION PRACTICE

For me, this is it. Meditation is what calms the mind and creates a rich connection to the self and your ability to be still. Try 5 minute MOODBOOSTS with me as I talk you through various ways to quiet the mind with the Mindsail App. Sit with your beautiful self and love it.

I have no doubt without yoga and meditations I’d be a total basket case still trying to master the art of multitasking, determined to be the best at it. No matter what your fitness routine or mindful practice is... can I inspire you to capture the essence of slowing down and taking one thing at a time?  With how fast things come at us these days, connecting to your ability to enjoy something moment by moment will enrich your capacity to be present with yourself, the tasks you want to achieve and others who are graced with your presence more and more. I'm with you on this journey, I love the challenge it presents and look forward to doing less with more focus as a singletasker.

Thank you for stopping by. If you have any great tips about being a better singletasker... send them my way! Let me know if you find any of these tips helpful... share your progress! I'm so proud of all of you.

HOW AWARE ARE WE?

Hi there lovelies, hope you're having a beautiful Sunday.

Photo By Erik Almas in Dubai

Photo By Erik Almas in Dubai

How aware are we I ask?

We can be aware of the obvious things for sure; emotions we feel, our responsibilities, the routine of how we move through our days, food we eat, amount of exercise we get, what we tune-in to and tune-out, judgments we make on ourselves, energy we put out into the world… you get the idea. Do you ever wonder if you’re just going through the motions of life missing out on that deeper connection to your self-awareness? And even more importantly, how does your answer make you feel?

A few helpful questions to increase your awareness with the examples I listed above:

  1. Do you push away emotions or invited them in?
  2. Are you enjoying or dreading your responsibilities?
  3. How present are you as you move through your day?
  4. Do you make food choices that support your health and goals?
  5. Is it important to you that you get daily physical exercise?
  6. What kind of environment are you creating for yourself?
  7. Are you judging the choices you make with compassion or negative self talk?
  8. Would the people in your environment say you are kind, loving and joyful to be around?

I truly believe, through our awareness it as just as easy to create wonderful, life changing habits as it is to fall into bad ones. It’s the desire to be aware that will dictate how much you enrich your life and strive for your greatest potential. We all want this don’t we? Take a moment to smile here and thank yourself for the awareness you have and trust that you are only going to expand and grow from here on out!

Various circumstances and mainly excuses kept me from committing to a yoga practice many years ago and I wouldn’t have had a clue how to meditate. Sit still and be quiet, oh my... I couldn’t do that, that’s just weird unless I’m sleeping… would have been my inner monologue. When I landed in a yoga practice I loved, I began to lean-in to how I could expand my awareness and that uplifted me. Being a witness to the challenges I faced on my mat revealed the same challenges I had in life and I wanted to look at that. Yoga was becoming an emotional experience filled with vulnerability, happiness, resistance, letting go of ego, challenges, peace and a wonderful sense of increased awareness. Not to mention, keeping me in great shape. I fell deeply in love and made it a commitment I knew I had to share with others.

There are days I’m extremely proud of my progress with being aware, present and connected and there are days I ignore my significant other as I create a social media post while I juggle car keys, grocery bags and getting the mail

I love inspiring a mindful lifestyle in general and as a yoga instructor I have a responsibility to my students to encourage them to connect to their awareness.  My hope is that it propels each person to want to live a mindful life filled with happiness. Being an instructor doesn’t make me better, more self-aware or give me super powers but I see it as a beautiful gift that serves my life well and supports my core beliefs in the effort to practice what I share.

In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently

It's such a pleasure to sit and think and write about things I love and that helped me along the way. If it speaks to you in some way, comment or share something with me.... I love hearing from you guys. Have a blessed day filled with awareness!

HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE?

Happy Soulful Sunday... May I ask you "How deep is your love?"

I peeled myself out of my 5PM jet lag slumber yesterday to head to my 3rd quarter meeting with the tremendous women of The New Hollywood and boy am I glad I did. As a lot of LOVE and enthusiasm is shared in this group our mission is to encourage each other to Rise Higher, Shine Brighter and Give Back. The reminders of self-love came through in several inspiring ways, so today I feel inclined to take a minute to connect with all of you on this.

Self-love is wildly talked about all over the place. Although it's something universally discussed and we bloggers can give all the tips we want, it's delicately personal isn't it? What self-love looks like for me may look completely different for you. Take a minute though, grab a pen and paper and ask yourself:

  1. What is self-love?
  2. What does it mean to me?
  3. How can I put energy toward this daily?
  4. What are the results I can envision for committing to these acts of self-love?

I'm hoping this exercise will get you started. If you're someone that's lacking awareness around something you would even refer to self-love, that's ok too. Think of creating rituals, from your rituals you will expand and begin to widen your scope and naturally make space for more self-love over time. When you sit with yourself and write these things down you can identify what this will look like for you. How nice would that feel? Keep your paper, heck post it on your mirror as a quick reference. Stay connected to your self-love.

4 Tips To Creating Self-Love

  1. Seek joy- think of something that makes you smile, what gives you an endorphin uplift, what makes you laugh.
  2. Know that your body is worthy of unconditional love- thank your body parts for all they do, appreciate what you've been given, nurture your body mindfully.
  3. Find your happy place- sit quietly anywhere and just be, feel the air surrounding you, hear whatever noises are present, smell the scent before you, feel it's simplicity.

Depending on your generation and musical preference take a listen to "How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gee's or Calvin Harris and grab a dancing partner or even a fan to blow your hair and you'll be smiling and feeling lovely in no time, just imagine you asking yourself the lyrics.... and let the good self-loving roll!

Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world
— Lucille Ball

Let me know how this goes gang. Remember it's a practice, a practice so worthy of doing. I love hearing from you.

Stepping Away

The work is piled high, deadlines are hanging over our heads, we’re begging for more hours in the day to attend to our priorities, we’re not sleeping enough, we don’t have time for play or nurturing ourselves… does this sound like you? Take a deep breath in and let all the air out please. Feel better?

I love when someone in my tribe says to me, “take some time for yourself Andrea.” So here I am on our Soulful Sunday to pay that forward and remind YOU to celebrate YOURSELF as much as you do your work and daily demands. In fact when relaxing and nurturing yourself becomes part of your daily demands you should feel really darn proud, even if it’s just stepping away from all of your responsibilities for 15 minutes. It’s so important. Pay attention to who your tribe is too, as we are all transmitters and receivers. An environment filled with love, compassion, support and encouragement will serve everyone best when it’s happening in both directions.

I’m traveling again right now accompanying my man, Erik Almas, at the Xposure International Photo Festival in the UAE and it’s incredible. I’m getting more free time than usual but Erik has had a taxing schedule and work is pouring in more than ever. He is so good to me when I’m slammed and feeling overwhelmed and always reminds me to take time to listen to what I need and honor it. It’s my turn to see if I can inspire him to stick to his mindful rituals and encourage some fun in the mix of the busied days.

Today Erik and I woke up to catch a sunrise and shoot a little together. We cherish the early hours that often are filled with magic and when the alarm goes off 30 min prior to sunrise it's a good time for us to visualize that magic. He has a ton on his plate so I know sleeping in would have been more appealing and yet we made the choice to get up and go. The sunrise was stunning. We laughed as we heard a boat of partiers still going strong and I dropped into my few little stretches so we could start snapping some yoga shots. The morning came with gorgeous colors illuminating the water which carried us blissfully into breakfast. The ocean was so enticing we then had to get paddle boards and take a cruise. All of this by 10AM and man did it feel great. We both could have spent the entire morning working away but we know how important it is to make time for some fun, creativity and quality time together too.

Whether you’re married, in a relationship or single, having a give and take with support will only make all your relationships stronger. As you encourage and inspire others, allow others to encourage and inspire you. Get in touch with being receptive and motivating, be open and giving with it all.

So next time you sense a friend or loved one getting a bit bogged down, can you be the motivator and offer a change up in action for a bit? Suggestions don’t have to be big and elaborate, think small and simple. My goals partner I check-in with for our weekly focus always includes something like; take a walk with hubby and the kids. It can be as easy as that.

Thanks for popping by you amazing souls.

We Are Never Too Old

Hello lovelies— Have you ever asked yourself, "how old do I feel?"  And if so, on a fairly consistent basis, would you say it is younger or older than you actually are? If the answer was older don't get discouraged here... we're just going create some awareness and maybe even shift our perspective if necessary.

In recent years, as my birthday rolls around I continue to ask Mom & Dad, "are you absolutely sure you had me in when you say you did... I'm feeling like I should see my birth certificate?" The smiles beam through the receiving end of that call. I'm proud to say I feel younger than I am.  I know for sure it wouldn't be this way if I didn't re-arrange my lifestyle about seven years ago and make my health and wellness a priority I'm committed to.

As I climb up into an old oak tree, I'm reminded of my youth and how many trees like this I've climbed over the years to play and see things from a different view. Comparably, this is how I look at my current age; playful & from a different view.

After an inspiring chat with my one of my best friends last week about her turning another year older and how she too can't believe our actual age (we cringe) because our physical age feels much younger (we laugh), I got excited to write about this. She is one of my most adventurous and brave girlfriends who nurtures her health and wellness and challenges herself to great heights as that once a year event continues to strike. We wrapped up our talk with love and laughter as I wished her a Happy Birthday and the best of luck on a climb she was headed for. She just completed it Friday with her husband, who is equally motivating and sent me a breathtaking photo. Here's an example of her great heights...

We did it! 8,844ft Half Dome summit in Yosemite! 18 miles with 4,800ft of elevation gain, whew, my feet hurt! Thank you to my hubby, Matthew Edler, for enduring the pain with me to celebrate my birthday

I read an article awhile back on Medical Daily that caught my attention about your biological age being different from your chronological age. Naturally, I want to know!  Well, I'm thrilled to report after a series of questions answered truthfully, I'm 12 again? WHAAAAT? Now that's just a little young but I'll take it. Want to find out your Biological Age? Leave me a comment if you do it. Remember, fun + awareness.

I share all of this because creating a consistent yoga practice, adding clean organic food into my daily eating habits and quieting my mind with a mediation practice has changed my life. Physically, I don't suffer from severe joint pain any more. I'm stronger and more flexible than when I was 18 years old and a professional dancer. I rarely get sick. I honor where I'm at each day when I get on my mat. I treat all of this as a practice which gives me the freedom to enjoy the journey and accept all the imperfections in the process. So when a best friends says she feels young and vibrant I get to graciously say, "I'm so happy for you, me too".  I wish this for everyone. As we navigate our way through the food industry, explore exercise we enjoy, expand in our minds and create the life we want to feel our best in, can I inspire you to NOT let your chronological number be something that stops you?  If you're telling yourself you feel old, you're too tired, you won't see a difference with your efforts... that is potentially all true. So stop that. Shift your perspective, replace excuses with actions that support you and embrace all the power you have even in your thoughts to be thriving, visualizing yourself doing all the things you want to be doing. It's never too late to get curious and make changes about how to live a better, healthier YOU. I'm proud of you already!

Mindful Tips For Travelers

So you're going to be traveling huh?

Photo by my gorgeous friend Jade Tailor who showed me around Lynn Canyon

Photo by my gorgeous friend Jade Tailor who showed me around Lynn Canyon

As traveling is a big part of my life it's important for me to stick to somewhat of a routine, even when I'm put into situations where it can be disrupted. Perhaps I can relate this to most of my friends with children who say how important it is to keep their little one's on a schedule. Well, I need this too... how about you guys?

To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep the mind strong and clear
— Buddha

There's no doubt that traveling can influence a major shift in our eating, physical exercise and mindful practices... but if we have some intentions as we wander into new territories we can certainly keep our selves in-check and possibly even shift perspective with how we indulge mind, body & spirit!

My pal Rod McLean snapped this for me as he showed me some sights at Sea to Sky

I consider this yet to be another form of practice. How do we sustain mindfulness & productive days when we venture away from our daily environment? I'm a go-with-the-flow gal, but I'm realizing more and more, I'm effective with keeping my mind, body & spirit healthy when I stay committed to my practices that support this.  My most recent acting job landed me in Vancouver for almost two weeks, so it was important for me to feel my best and balance shooting days with exploring around the city a bit.

No matter where you're headed can I inspire you to take your courageous and curious mindset with you? Find what works for you and create a practice for yourself so regardless of where you are you have a few things you know will uplift you and inspire you to stay healthy. I've fallen in love with mindfulness as I travel. Between seeking out yoga studios, hikes, organic restaurants, peaceful areas for meditations, transit systems, socially connecting with friends and meeting locals... I'm excited to adapt and enjoy all that traveling can offer.

Check out my quick (sped up) Get My Body Back #GMBB4 core series I did on the outdoor hotel patio as the sun was setting. As I incorporated this into my yoga flow, just being outside and in a different setting was energizing for my soul.

A few stress relieving, mood boosting tips you can take anywhere:

  1. Daily Gratitudes- I've explored writing them down, using my Gratitude 365 App, breathing them into my heart space as I meditate and mentally engaging with them to calm my mind as I want to drift into a peaceful sleep.
  2. Explore a new area- This can seem daunting when you don't know your way around, but let me encourage you to get out and walk, jog or bike. You learn the lay of the land and discover so much more than when you're in a car. Let yourself get lost... you'll find your way back.
  3. Nutritionally take charge- Pack some of your favorite healthy snacks if you think they may not be accessible where you're headed. When options are slim you'll be happy you have them. Use Yelp to search healthy organic spots in your location.
  4. Be Flexible- Accept that you will do your best but remain flexible as you trust yourself and the wisdom of your body, mind and heart to guide what feels right. This most definitely includes relaxing too!

A few of my favorite travel buddies are the magic bullet and vega protein packs. So even if I indulge in other areas I know that I can still get at least one healthy smoothie with vitamins and nutrients down the hatch each day. This saves me. My eko superlite manduka travel mat is another since it's light weight & foldable.

What are your travel tips with staying mindful? Do you have any for me? I love hearing from you guys.... feel free to comment and share if you read anything you like. Thanks for stopping by!

Do you wish you got more sleep, drank more water,  started a meditation practice, took walks frequently, ate healthier meals, carved out space just for you or engaged in more mindful activities with friends or loved ones... to suggest a few? HERE IS YOUR YOUR CHANCE, WITH A COMMUNITY SUPPORTING YOU! We all learn from accountably. Receiving and giving support with my TNH Members has changed my life for the better. There's a drive to continue to grow and pay that energy forward in a variety of ways. For #GMBB4 we put our money where our mouths are, involving a beautiful charity aspect. Choose something, anything, big or small that you believe will create a healthier, happier lifestyle for YOU– let's do this!

The New Hollywood Women’s Goal Group Inc. is a philanthropic women’s goal group and 501c3 non-profit. TNH wants to inspire everyone to Rise Higher, Shine Brighter and Give Back! The four pillars of our organization are: goals, support, education and charity. Join our movement, on line community and quarterly newsletter by signing our pledge page
— The New Hollywood

As a member and leader with the TNH Elective I will commit to three months of meditation, 10 minutes of core work daily and I will post an Inspirational Addict blog every Sunday to warm your soul on your journey!  Along side me, motiving us all will be; Pina De Rosa, Annie Tedesco, Alexis Carra Girbés, Jenny Parsinen Bergold, Julie DelaBarre, Tracy Samson, Brianna Brown.

My experience from participating last year helped get me into a regular meditation practice, drinking more water and the booty lift I craved happened! I felt supported and loved encouraging those involved as we faced our challenges and successes together.

My Mom had joined me and committed to three days of walking a week & succeeded. My boyfriend and I meditated and drank a full glass of water upon waking up. Erik additionally added his own push-up's and sit-up's and I did booty work (as I mentioned.) It wasn't easy but as we held each other accountable WE SUCCEEDED and FELT AMAZING!

Should we have a quick chat about resistance?  Do you often feel it toward the things you know you'd benefit the most from actually committing to? I certainly do. I was resistant last year to join #GMBB3 and although it was a great experience, I've had resistance toward it again this year? WHAT... why? We all face resistance when it comes to commitment. Even more-so when it's about the things we should & want to do more of. It's like our psyches messing with us saying are you sure you CAN do this?  We need to respond with a roaring HECK YES

Lean into it, connect with your courage and listen to your heart... what do you need the most right now? Take my hand.... I'm with you all the way.

What you GET by achieving your goals is not as important as what you BECOME by achieving your goals
— Henry David Thoreau

Learning Value In Rising Strong

As a member of The New Hollywood I'm blessed to be introduced to many wonderful things that may not otherwise cross my path. This year our gift book, group read is Rising Strong. Although I love the act of curling up with a hard copy book when I can, I've also been listening to it on Audible  and equally enjoying it. This book is resonating with me on so many levels. I'm feeling the need to share and shout out through my cheerleading mega phone... THIS IS YOUR SUMMER READ!

image.jpg

I was first introduced to Brené Brown via a her TED talk "The Power Of Vulnerability" which circulated all over social media and 25,538,752 people have viewed.  The more I listen, read and take-in what Brené is sharing, I am having an experience that triggers the undeniable enthusiasm to live at my greatest potential. As a yoga instructor, I honor the responsibility of wanting to learn, love and share in a way that just may inspire you in the way others are inspiring me.  Leaders like Brené, dedicating themselves to research that speaks to the masses invites you into a place where you truly understand you are not alone in this game of life.

Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage
— Brené Brown
ThornsberryHouse_Images__MG_0076.jpg

How many times have you exhausted yourself with acting out your feelings in a way that you later regret? You say something you can't take back, you raise your voice, you cause a scene, you hurt someone's feelings, your thoughts are literally draining you as negativity overpowers the positive.  Seeing, believing and accepting the good gets blurred by old stories, bad habits and self doubt. If you're human you've experienced this at some point, haven't you? When do we decide enough is enough? How do we wake-up and prepare ourselves for the muck we're going to wade through to grow into a healthier place? Everyone's path is different, there is no question. From the wise words of another favorite human of mine, Pema Chodron, says Start Where You Are.

There are too many people today who instead of feeling hurt are acting out their hurt; instead of acknowledging pain, they’re inflicting pain on others. Rather than risking feeling disappointed, they’re choosing to live disappointed. Emotional stoicism is not badassery. Blustery posturing is not badassery. Swagger is not badassery. Perfection is about the furthest thing in the world from badassery
— Brené Brown, Rising Strong

When we're ready, we begin choosing to do things that create mindful awareness and shift the grappling with our choices into more of a soft snuggle. We are not handed a perfect life but we can create a life that feels perfect for us and find contentment with what we have. Shall we dive into the process of being kind, loving and experience our greatest good by peeling back our layers and trusting we have the courage to rise strong from every experience we endure? Let's do this.

I absolutely believe in the power we have with-in to change and give ourselves permission to start where we are. I hope you take me up on this summer read or at the very least join the millions and check out Brenés' TED talk. If it speaks to you in some way or you have anything you'd like to share.... I love hearing from you. Thank you for popping by!

Take a slow cruise around www.BrenéBrown.com for several more resources and encouragement.
